Owie Go Away! Viewer Discretion Advised

I just wanna so Owie, Owie, Go Away!!!!

On Jan. 16th I had to go see the doctor for my owie.  I have lots and lots of bumps all over my body.  They just keep popping up everywhere.  This one on my elbow is being very naughty right now.  It swelled up huge.

 Here's how it should look

I was given some antibiotics to take 2x a day and an ant inflammatory.  It got all better.  But.....................
Do you think I would stop licking it?  Nope.  Guess what?  Yep, it's infected again.  I told Mom it's not my fault.  Licking does not cause infections.  Licking cleans owies.  Am I right?  Come on my doggie friends I need your support on this one.  Tell her it cleanses.  I know it does.  I just know it.

Dad took me to the doctor again this morning and we saw my regular doctor friend and he gave me some more antibiotics and this time it's 1 pill every 24 hours for 21 days.  Geesh, I will have been taking these things for almost a month.  He said if it keeps getting infected then we might want to have it removed and then he would go around with a laser and remove all my bumps.  If we do that he would also most likely suggest we clean my teeth.  I know Mom isn't thrilled about either and will want to avoid it if at all possible because she is terrified of anesthesia.  She takes me to the doctor for everything, but she refuses to take herself and I keep telling her she needs to get her issues looked at too.  Mom's they just won't listen.  The veterinarians have reassured Mom and Dad that the anesthesia isn't that scary and actually very safe.

I have to sneek away to the bedroom now if I want to lick my spots because Mom and Dad are watching me like a hawk.  I swear they must have eyes in the back of their heads and x-ray vision.

I laughed at Mom the other  night because she got this bright idea to wrap my elbow. Have you ever tried to wrap a dog elbow?   Yeah, it's not easy.  She was afraid of getting it too tight.  No worries about that.  By the time Dad got home it was down around my ankle and I was doing the funny prancing step all around the house.  Not so funny part is Dad had an idea.  Yep, his actually worked.  He took some gauze and made a bandage and used medical tape and wrapped that around my leg.  It stuck alright.  For awhile anyway.  I  couldn't lick it all that night :(

As if this whole owie thing isn't enough I was tortured last night with my regular teeth brushing AND ear cleaning AND nail trimming.  What the heck.

Do not worry about me because none of this has slowed me down at all.  I've been running around the backyard, playing with my stuffies inside, and picking on Sweet Pea.  If you don't believe me check out the proof

I told my owie it must leave.  I am no longer allowed to show it any kind of attention.  It must be ignored.  I can do it.  I know I can.

  1. Miss Emma,
I know all about those bumps, especially on the elbow. You must be very limber to be able to lick that. I think, though, that maybe you should try not licking it for a while, OK?

My momma is super scared of the anesthesia thing too and the last time I had it for my x-rays I was pretty loopy for almost all day after but then I felt great.

You tell you mom she needs to see her doctor. How the heck will she take care of you if she has sickies, huh? Don't worry about those antibiotics. They are good for you.

  2. Poor Emma. We hope you get better very soon! Our Zoe has bad skin allergies, which results in excessive licking and repeated infections. She had to wear the cone of shame for a few weeks, which was awful for everyone. We hope that Emma gets well very soon!

  3. Emma, we are sending healing purrs that your owies go away soon and don't come back.

The Mom says anesthesia is much better especially for pets then it was years ago and that now they can and do, do all sorts of testing to make it safer for you.

  4. OMG! Emma, you need to stop licking that! It looks so sore!
Darwin had a bump on her and we were at the vet yesterday so they tested it, and whew... it was just a cyst.
    But no more licking!! :)

  6. Oh Emma - sorry I'm late (am finally catching up with blog friends again!) but I'm so sorry to hear about your ouchie!! It looks nasty! You poor thing.

Hey - you know, my human had an idea - how about putting a big sweatshirt or pullover (don't know what you Americans call it) on you? They used to do that for me, before they got the idea of making me pj's using fabric & tailor - they put on a stretching pullover with long sleeves on me. It covers up all your front legs so you would not be able to lick your bump.

Also, my humans were really worried about the anaesthetic for me too but our vets explained that those drugs have come a long way since and they're very safe nowadays., In fact, I was so woozy when I came out of my spay (nearly 8yrs ago!) whereas I recovered so quickly this time when I went under to remove my bumps & have my teeth cleaned!

  7. That is a big owie indeed! Try very hard not to lick it. What about using a tube sock with the toe part cut so the sock can be pulled high over the elbow?

  8. That's a good idea of Honey's to wear a sweatshirt. I was also going to suggest wrapping the bandage around your body as well, only once though, just to hold it on better. I've got no idea how to do it though, lol. Hope the owie goes away soon, it doesn't look good on such a gorgeous girl. So it might be best if you stop licking it, Emma. Although I have heard that licking is supposed to be good for owies, except stitches!
