Happy Halloween

We got jipped this year.  Where's the treats?  Where's the trip to Grandpa's?  Where's the trick or treating at Skippy's house (chihuahua next door)?  We didn't even get to leave the house in our cool costumes.  Fooey! 

Mom and Dad did help us dress up and gave us some treats for posing nicely for the camera.  Check out our costumes.  If I remember correctly Bella has worn the costume I'm wearing today.  Sooooooo, how can it be a Queen costume for me and a Princess costume for her???  New costumes,  please.

Queen Emma:

We had a little fashion faux pas.  My queen hat didn't want to stand up so Dad fixed it.  He wrapped some paper into the shape of a cone and inserted it into my hat and then it sat up straight and queen like.  No, I am not sticking my tongue out.  I would never do such a thing ;)

We call Sweet Pea several nicknames but the one that seems to truly fit is "jester".  Mom and Dad wanted to dress her up as a court jester but didn't get the costume ordered so the next best thing was a..............clown.  She did almost as good as me keeping her costume on and modeling pretty for the camera.  I have to say she is catching on pretty fast.  Way to go Pea. 

Clown Pea:

She has learned she can "earn" treats and if she performs correctly she will get her reward.  We are all food motivated so learning new things is usually easy.  Bella she will work for either her sling ball which you can see in the photo there with Pea or food. 

Mom and Dad wasn't sure how to dress the little princess.  So they thought this was funny.

Bella:

I'm not sure what this means but she took the first head piece off and after the last photo shoot she left the "red" head piece on and was playing with her toy.  Hmmmmm.  I'm not commenting :)  In the first "red" photo her headpiece lights up and blinks.  In the others the camera must have caught it in the off blinks instead of the on blinks.

She posed really well for her photo shoot.  She will work really hard and do anything you say for a reward.  Mom has done classes with her a lot, more so than the rest of us and she is really good at performing requested skills and learning new ones.

Our Halloween wasn't very exciting, but we did have fun entertaining our humans.

Silly Sunday ~ Ghosts of Halloween Past

Halloween Horses and A Dog in Bella Costume

Mom and Dad went to a Horse Rescue tonight to see all the horses dressed up in Halloween costumes.  There was a cookie monster, unicorn, minnie mouse, jedi knight, witch, and many more creative costumes.  They charge a fee for trick or treaters, a lesser fee for adults and use the money to fund the many needs of the rescue.  The stalls were all decorated in a coordinating theme to match the costume.  It was a very good fund raising idea the barn was packed with people.  They charged 50 cents for refreshments like apple cider, cupcakes and popcorn.  Upon paying your admittance fee you received a ticket to try one of the activities like maze, fortune teller, walk the plank, etc...  If you wanted to try the others you could purchase more tickets at $1 each.  It was a very affordable event and the money went for a good cause.  The rescue saves horses from slaughter, abuse, and neglect and places them with loving homes.  That's what the flyer says.  It was there first interaction with the organization.

Why are there people in the world that abuse others?  Mom said her and Dad were so sad to see one horse that was so thin it's bones were showing.  That's how I looked when Mom and Dad saved me.  Now I get as much food as I want and tastey treats too.  It's horrible to be starving and want sooo badly to eat but you're unable to get any food.  At least this horse is in a safe place now where people are trying to set things right and show it there is a better world with caring people.  Don't worry we didn't post any sad pictures.

Sorry about the poor quality pictures but the lighting in the barn was dim and not all the stalls had enough lighting to make for a good picture.

You will never guess what else they saw in the barn.  A brown streak went racing by Moms legs and guess what it was.....a dog dressed in a Bella costume.  Can you believe it?  There was a doggie there dressed just like our very own Bella. 

He/she was posing all pretty, sitting up straight and proud but Mom's camera is so very slow and unresponsive that by the time it acknowledged she had pushed the button and then flashed the dog was laying down.  There was a little Dachshund there in a banana costume and this dog was just head over heels for that little thing and followed it all over the barn. 

It's only 3 days until Halloween does everyone know what they are going to dress up as?

Two Pitties in the City has been an inspiration to us with all the fun things they do with their dogs and all the positive impressions they make upon those that meet their beautiful Miss M, Mr. B, and SuperLevi.  We would like to introduce our blog friends to these awesomely fabulous and very stylish dogs.

Mom and Bella ordered a t-shirt and bandanna to help out the SuperCutie.  I tell ya that sister of mine can't decide who she thinks is cuter Roo, Frankie, Levi, or Mr. B.   I see her going googlie eyes over these guys.

 
She was almost drooling over Roo's puppy pictures.  Then I caught her gazing all starry eyed at Frankie's new tall and handsome upon a log picture.  I know she wishes she had someone younger than me that could romp and play all day.  Have you ever seen the movie "Over The Hedge"?  We always joke she reminds us of the dog in that movie that says "play." "play, play, play, play, play"




Hope everyone is having a great week.  It's countdown time to our vacation and I can't wait.  I'm hoping Mom gets us a new camera so we get some awesome pictures to share.

Silly Sunday ~ Boo

355 Years Ago a Tree Was Born

Today was a beautiful fall day.  Sunny with a crisp breeze absolutely perfect for a hike.  So we all loaded up in the EmmaMobile and went to a Nature Preserve for a nice hike.  We hiked the prairie field and it was hopping with dragonflies, butterflies and crickets.  Butterflies and Dragonflies always try to hitch a ride on my bum and one tried to hitch a ride on my neck.  Unfortunately we weren't quick enough to get its picture.  Mom kinda had her hands full with me and Bella and the camera was tucked away in her pocket.  Not sure how she was planning on using it that way.   I tried to pounce on some little flying hoppy thing that jumped out in front of me.  I have no idea what it was but it didn't stick around to play with me :(  Oh well, I would rather walk and sniff and see what surprises are waiting for us up ahead.

The leaves are just beginning to change and the colors are marvelous.  They will soon be vibrant shades of red, orange, brown and yellow.  It's our favorite time of year. 

After we stirred up the flying and hopping bugs we decided to trek through the woods.  Someone should have warned us it was a haunted woods.  We're trotting along, sniffing here and there having a wonderful time when off in the brush we hear a tremendous ruckus. Us doggies turn about to see what all the commotion is about and I thought I was going to have to pick up after Mom ;)  I saw this huge bird with a very long tail take off with a lot of noise out of a tree and take flight.  I had no idea birds that large can fly.  Where do you think the camera was this time?  Of course, in Mom's pocket.  I have no idea how she expects to get cool pictures for my blog when the camera isn't ready.  I did a search and it looks like our mystery haunted woods creature is a Pheasant.  We found this photo of one at National Geographic.

We wandered over to the other side of the woods and come across this tree that told  us it was over 350 years old.  Wow!  I wanna see 350 too.  I just don't wanna be rooted in one place I want to walk, explore, lay down for a nap, eat and do all kinds of fun things.

 

Crazy Pea thought she saw some kind of critter on the ground behind the tree and then Mom thought it would be cute to get a picture of her "treeing" since we think she may be some kind of hound mix.  We are thinking maybe Redbone Coon Hound. 

We meandered along over to the pond where we found a comfy spot to sit and get a drink of water.  No, not from the pond, Yuck!  Mom carries a backpack with a two sided water bowl for multiple drinkers and two large bottles of water.  We stop regularly for hydration even in the cooler seasons. 

That was a day in the life of Emma hope you enjoyed our adventure.

Someone Stole My Identity

This is impossible.  Someone has stolen my identity.  I would have never ever ever posed for this photo.

Yes, it kind of looks like me.  What, wait a minute they have even imitated my inside out ear.  Wow, whoever that is they are good.  I can ensure you I would not snuggle the Jester Pea.  It's bad enough I have to share MY couch with her I would not snuggle with her.

If that is me I am pretty sure she encroached upon MY space and was  leaning up against me pushing me over farther and farther down the couch.  Who does she think she is anyway?  I'm the only one that can pull off that smooth move.  Except on the Pea because she won't move no matter how much I push and stretch. 

Oh, I know.  I bet Mom photoshopped me into this picture as a joke.  That's it I'm sure of it.

Note from Mom:   That picture was taken on October 3, 2011 at 2:58 a.m.  They were both snoozing away on the couch while I was on the computer.  I quietly got the camera and took a few pictures.  Emma did wake up and raise her head as if to say no way you didn't just do that.  There were no stand ins, photoshop or impostors of any kind.  It is in fact the real one and only Sweet Pea & Emma.

Slobbers

I've been reading about all the amazing slobbers going on in blogville like Slobber Master Mango or Honey who I couldn't find a link to one of her drooling but I did find a link to a slobber contest she hosted a few years back and there were some great droolers.  I was a little sad because even though I'm a big hound type doggie I don't slobber.  Except when being fed something really yummy and I have to wait and for it like when Mom and  Dad bring home hamburgers or I know I'm getting something special added to my dinner then I might have a little extra saliva.

I'm sure you can imagine how super excited I was to discover this one evening.......

It looks like a fine thread of crystal with a diamond at the end.  I am so excited I DID IT, YEAH !

Silly Sunday ~ Dog Games

We participate in the annual Dog Games event held every May and I really, really wanted to post about all the fun we had this year but Mom never got around to helping me tell my story so here are some of the pictures from our event.  Imagine our surprise when we received literature in the mail and there were our faces on the brochure.  I think that makes us celebrities.  Hey!  Where is my royalties check....I need some cookies, toys, collar with matching leash and harness, cookies, and more cookies. 

We had an excellent time.  It's the perfect opportunity for all of us to act silly, funny and let loose.

Mom and Dad had to put socks on their hands and then dress us in these shirts and once dressed we had to run to the finish line.   Do you see that the Queen is winning this one.  Oh Yeah, I still got it!!  I won, I won !!!

 Silly girl I guess no one explained to Bella the rules of this game.  The object of this obstacle was NOT climbing the ladder.  Miss Bella wanted to show them there was a better trick to done.  We were supposed to go under the ladder and through the curtain.  I still remember having to help Mom and Dad pick their chins up off the ground.  They were just standing there with these stupid looks on their faces in total disbelief.  Mom as laughing like crazy.  What can I say....that's my sister.  I wonder if she thought it was a skinny A-Frame?

Hey! she stole my trick.  I do wakey, wakey.  Can you believe these people thought we wouldn't be able to find our Dad hidden under blankies?  Silly humans.  We always know exactly where our parents are.  We are superb Mom and Dad finders especially under blankies and once found we thoroughly cover them with lots and lots of kisses and wet willies.   

There were lots of fun games like this set up all over a very large field.  All the stations use skills that we have learned like sit, stay, down, come, loose leash walking, catch, etc.  There was one obstacle where they took large kitty litter buckets and turned them upside down and lined them up like weave poles and Bella thought they were a "table" like in agility and hopped right up on top one.  That may be because our backyard agility table is actually an upside down wash tub.  And they wonder why we get confused.  This event has given Mom lots of ideas of how to make ordinary objects fun for us.  There were other stations doing things like timed catch - how many balls or treats can you catch in a specific amount of time.  At one spot they held us one at a time while Mom clipped a key to our collar and then walked away and chained herself to a post, she called one of us (the one with the key) and then she took it off our collar and unlocked the lock - you never know when you will need a good recall.  That's just a brief idea of some of the neat stuff we get to do.  I'm already looking forward to next year.
