Fishing for Bella

Mom had an idea.

I went along with it.

She's a bit awkward, but I rock!!!!

Check out my newest video.  I even got a little creative with the editing.  Wait until Mom sees it, hehe :)

Did anyone notice how much Mom babbled and said the same command over and over.  I have really good ears, they do work, I got it the first time Mom.  I have to get with Dexter about this babbling human thing because it can be pretty confusing at times.  Geesh! new game, lots of extra words, I'm super excited, but I did good despite all the challenges.

I think I did pretty awesome and showed a lot of self control and restraint considering the voice inside my head was saying "chase toy, chase toy".  I was a very good girl and put into play my awesome-est stay.  I also need to remember to tell Mom I prefer to sit and not down when quick bursts are required to chase a moving toy. I'd like to see her spring up from a down and run after a squeaky.  Oh! Great idea that will be my next video adventure.

Mom has been wanting to make me a flirt pole for a really long time.  She forgot about it and just come across the the idea again.  Luckily for me she didn't hesitate to put that idea into motion today.  We  had everything but the rope so Dad was nice and went to the store and got some rope.  In just a few minutes I had a brand new interactive adventure.

This was our very first time with the flirt pole and I'm sure we didn't do some things exactly right so if you want more information on how to properly use a flirt pole check out the instructions at Bad Rap Blog and click on the flirt pole handout and watch their video because it's much better for teaching/learning purposes.  Ours was just for fun.  Mom said she's going to read the handout and watch the video again.  Repetition works good for the humans too.

Mom did have to think upon my training and the meaning of the words we use.  I already know sit, stay, down, leave it, take it, give.  These concepts are required before attempting this game.  Mom said she didn't want to use "take it" for my cue to chase the toy because she thinks it's two totally different meanings.  For instance when Mom says "leave it" that means do not touch it and do not take it.  I should wait until I'm told to "take it" or I'm given something I can take.

When using the flirt pole I'm asked to sit and stay until given the cue to move and begin chasing the toy.  "Take it" just doesn't mean that for us.  So, Mom said we were going to add "chase" to my vocabulary.  Now I have a new word.  "Chase" for us means I am free from my sit-stay to chase after the toy and take it once I catch up to it.

Has anyone else played this game?

  1. That video was very cute! I love your commentary! Lol

Maybe if your mom shortened the rope, she could move the toy faster, and extend your chase time? I may have to try making one of these for my gang!

  4. We use to do that with the buggy whips from the horses. The dogs always loved to chase the little tassels at the end. How fun!
