Oh my goodness!!!! Our comments runneth over. We are so blessed to have such wonderful furiends!! Thank you so much for all the well wishes, power of the paw and brilliant suggestions and ideas for improving my food so it's yummy and desirable to my sniffer and tastebuds.
I'm more willing to eat now since I finally convinced Mom to stop putting dry kibble in my bowl. Who invented that stuff anyway? Have the humans ever tried it? I'm now eating macaroni and chicken. It tastes better than the dry kibble, but I think Mom is trying to pull the wool over my eyes because there was a tiny sprinkling of that dry kibble stuff in my bowl tonight all mixed into my yummy mac & chicken. Hello! I can smell it in there. Guess what.....Yep, I left most of the dry kibbles in the bowl ;) Then I went back a few hours later and ate them. Don't tell Mom but I am very hungry. I'm just too stubborn to give in.
Even though I'm eating...2 cups mac and 2 cups chicken twice a day I still do not appear to be gaining any weight. Mom said it looks like I'm still losing weight. Now that I'm eating I heard Mom say something about trying to make sure I'm getting enough calories each day. She showed me this website the Dr. sent us called Balance It and another website called Pet Diets. Both websites are supposed to be operated by veterinary nutritionists. The Balance It website offers recipes that you balance with their vitamin/mineral powder. Pet Diets creates a formulated recipe for you and requires your Dr. to fax them medical records. Have any of you ever tried either of these products? Which one do you think sounds better?
This week Mom and I have been going on more walks together. Grandpa offered to go with us and we were very excited we were able to share a walk with him. He's 81 years old and usually doesn't feel up to going. I told him it would be a slow easy walk because I'm not moving as fast as I once was. We posted awhile back about Grandpa and his ear ouchie that's the evil "C" disease. He had his ear operated on in June and all went well. Then during his last visit with the specialist they said the new bumps that popped up on his neck are the evil "C" disease too. The good news is the bumps are new and haven't been there long so the radiation treatments Grandpa will be starting soon for his ear will include that are of his neck and the doctor said the radiation should get rid of it. If not he will require another surgery. Whew! Between the doggies and humans it's been a challenging year.
We took Grandpa for a walk along the boardwalk. It winds around by a lake and wetland area. We saw some long leggy birds. I'm not sure you can really see them in the picture. Mom has a horrible camera in her cell phone.
We try to take our walks in the evening because it's still pretty hot. Tonight we had to miss our walk because at 10:00 p.m. it was still too hot to go out and by then it was already dark. Below are some pictures from our walk last night. We went out right about sunset and it was still warmer than we prefer, but the Dr. said it's important I get exercise to help prevent muscle loss and weakness. We took a short walk by the lake and I met two new friends. One was a cute little 13 week old Boxer puppy named Doodle. Sorry, no pictures of little Doodle because Mom well............ I have no idea why she's never ready with the camera when cool things are happening because she can sit with it pointed at me all day at home.
She did have the camera ready when I met my second little friend.
I was a little disappointed because he did NOT turn into a Prince.
I thought I would do some modeling for the camera and show off my new slender super model figure ;)
Thank you everyone for all your prayers, power of the paw, comments, friendship, support and kindness. You are so wonderful!!!!
Emma

We just read about your sickies and are so glad to learn you are feeling better. Jed was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease this year and he is also on prednisone for the rest of his life, plus he can only tolerate chicken and rice for his dinner, although he can still manage kibble and chicken for breakfast. He's also got some muscle atrophy going on. So he is sharing some of your symptoms and mama is sharing your mom's anxiety. We will be keeping our paws crossed for you, sweet Emma.

Way to go ..... goodbye kibbles and welcome macaroni and chicken. Eat well friend. Wishing you all a good Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Miss Emma,
ReplyDeleteI think that you and Grandpa sound well matched for senior appropriate walkies and I am sure you both enjoy your time more for having the company of each other.
I am glad that your mom found foodables that taste good. I don't know about those special diets or anything but I bet there is yummy food out there somewhere just made for senior doggies who are having trouble keeping their weight up.
You take care and try not to lick your leggie.
Slobbers,
Mango
So glad you are going for wonderful walkies with Grandpa and eating some yummy food. I think the most important thing right now is for mom to make sure to feed you food you will eat. Our mom cooks kibble toppers for us and we used to eat entirely home cooked. Make sure your mom gives you some calcium rich foods in there, egg shells all ground up are good. There is lots of great info on the dog aware site, we have a link to it on our page. Also liver and like we said before, tripe, are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI have dealt with sacary unexplained weight loss before in Zira. It could be muscle atrophy. Or it could be general aging.
Make sure to spend as much time as possible with your momma and let her know how much you love her

Oh Emma - I feel so awful for being so late to visit and send some healing slobbers!! I didn't realise you were feeling sickie! :-( Grrr...my human has been so busy with all her travelling overseas and stuff that I have not been able to keep up with my blog friends at all. Anyway, I'm sorry this is so late but we're all thinking of you and sending you lots of good vibes from far away! I'm afraid I haven't heard of those websites but I hope they will help to give your human some good ideas.
ReplyDeleteOh! I was sorry to hear about your Grandpa also! I seem to have missed that too before! Am glad to hear that the ear bumps were removed fine and the new bumps can be treated...you looked lovely in that picture on your walk together!
I know what you mean about slowing down on walks too. I'm starting to slow a bit too - and to get tired much more quickly than I used to. But hey - like I always say - what's the rush anyway? ;-)
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Sounds like you and Grandpa are the perfect walking companions, Emma:) Glad you're eating better now. I'm like your Mum, always wishing I'd taken photos after times when I never think to ... does that make sense? Keep up the good work:)
